am For Autism Benefit Raises Awareness

to South Jersey Community

Genevieve DeLarm's idea of charity began with the remains of her stimulus check and the will to help others like herself. With 120 dollars remaining from her check, she gathered six willing bands and to donate their talents to raise money for organization, Potential Inc. of South Jersey and Philadelphia.

Bridgeton Fraternal Order of Eagles has also been eager to help. They joined forces by donating their location for the event to take place on August 2, 2008. Adding to the already generous offer they rallied together and offered a chicken barbeque to feed the masses. Several local merchants also lend a hand with donations to help raise money.

Along with the chicken barbeque there will be snow cones, face painting, A DJ offering dance music between the bands, several stands with items to buy, 50/50 drawing and a Chinese auction.

This is a rain or shine event. The show kicks off at 1 PM and ends at 8 PM. It will be all ages until 7 PM. Kicking off the festivities is Parkside AVE. followed by Hopscotch Injury, Hangman's Cry, Tony Mecca and friends, Drive 56 and ending with Them Bones. The music is all genres so there is sure to have something for everyone.

"I didn't have much to start with I just wanted to make my 120 dollars do something more. I seen the campaign from a cable channel and the idea was born." says Genevieve. "I knew how hard it was to understand about my son's autism, I just wanted to find a way to help others in my same situation I was 4 years ago" Importantly she brings a new approach to fundraising by bringing together music, families and fun.

"I don't know how I would have been able to pull this off without the Eagles club", Genevieve stated, "They have been the main contributor and every single member has been so supportive. It's like a huge family! Their motto, People helping people stand true"

Genevieve son Paul Simmons was diagnosed in 2002 with Aspergers. A form of Autism that just a few years ago was foreign language to her. After several years they've found ways to work around the troubles and turn life around for Paul. Now at 15, he's a straight A student and well liked among his peers.

He's excited to see him Mom help others. "I can't wait to work the snow cone booth", Paul states excitedly.  After seeing the idea come to life, Paul's just as enthusiastic as his mother. That mood can only inspire others to have faith.

A speaker from the organization Potential will be attendance to speak and offer help to anyone interested in learning more. Networking the community with a solutions is the key focus, Genevieve is offering a hand along the way.
