On Saturday, June 30th 2007, Potential Inc., a non-profit company who provides therapy for individuals with autism, and Warminster’s Starbucks staff teamed up and cooled down while washing cars to raise money to support Potential’s Scholarship Fund. This fund provides money directly to families in financial need so that they can pay for services. The team raised $466.00 dollars washing cars free of charge on a donation only basis. Starbucks donated $900.00 on top of the money the team raised to further contribute to Potential’s Scholarship Fund via their Starbucks’s Make Your Mark Grant.
Make your Mark is Starbucks’ way of supporting and encouraging their employees’ community involvement. Employees are able to choose any eligible non-profit organization that is meaningful to them. The team, comprised of a core of three or more employees along with friends, family and customers, provide hands-on participation in the fundraising efforts. Upon completion of the fundraiser event, the employees may apply for a grant on behalf of the non-profit in correspondence to the total number of hours the team volunteered.
Kristine Quinby, Potential’s Executive Director stated, “I am delighted with the amount money we were able to raise and we will definitely have another fundraising carwash next year. The money that we raised will help many families in need pay for services. We are so grateful that Starbucks’ generously contributed not only funds but Starbucks staff to help with the event."
